Groups
Group Therapy
This process group, designed to be the core of your recovery process
and led by a seasoned group therapist, provides individuals with a safe,
supportive environment to examine the underlying issues related to their
eating disorders. Each person comes to the group with his or her own
set of dynamics-- experience, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. The
group creates a milieu, a mirror of our lives, in which you can give
and receive feedback, challenge and be challenged to change destructive
behaviors, and learn how to follow through with committments. The group
experience creates connection with others who are struggling with similar
problems. Most importantly, you can receive acknowledgement and validation
for the progress and changes you make in the direction of recovering
from your eating disorder.
Meal Focus Group
This group, led by a staff member, provides an opportunity
for you to eat a meal with group structure and support. After the
meal, participants discuss food/feeling relationships, body image issues,
and the physiological experience of hunger and fullness.
Nutrition
Focus/Meal Group
Facilitated by a nutritionist, this group provides
an occasion for participants to eat with each other in various settings
. The experience is useful in reducing social anxiety at meal times,
adjusting to different food preparation and portion sizes, and making
decisions in restaurants. After the meal, you have an opportunity to
share with specific focus on the nutrition component of your recovery
process.
Psychoeducational Focus Group
This group focuses on particular issues such as, but not limited to, body image, relationships, coping skills, communication, boundaries, spirituality and grief. The therapist provides a short teaching and the group discusses their own experiences as related to the topic. Sometimes there is homework to see if you can experiment with what you've learned and come back to group with a report and follow-up discussion. Topics in this group are chosen in collaboration with group members and the therapist.
