Body Image Self Test

This self test is meant to assist you in identifying your body image thoughts and behaviors. It is not an assessment tool for identifying whether or not you have an eating disorder. If you are concerned about yourself or someone else in your life, it is important for your to be evaluated face to face by a professional who is an eating disorder specialist (physician, therapist, nutritionist).

1. I wear loose clothing to hide my body.
2. I refuse to go out socially because I don't like the way I look.
3. I weigh myself daily.
4. I can determine whether it will be a good or bad day by what the scale says.
5. I try to avoid mirrors.
6. I delay doing things until I am at the right weight.
7. When my foods are out of control I tend to isolate and avoid people.
8. I exercise even when I am exhausted or in pain.
9. I tend to judge people by the shape of their body.
10. If someone tells me I look good, I think they are lying.
11. I constantly think about feeling or being fat.
12. I avoid eating food with even the smallest amount of fat.
13. I feel diminished when I look through fashion magazines.
14. When I'm feeling bad I weigh myself more or less often.
15. I won't wear a bathing suit to the beach.
16. I feel self-conscious when I am with people who weigh less/more than me.
17. I wear high heel shoes so I can be taller.
18. If I can't do my exercise it causes me to panic.
19. I avoid eating certain foods in front of people.
20. I can't sit too long in the same spot without feeling I should be moving.
21. I think about having plastic or reconstructive surgery.
22. I wear clothes that create a thinner appearance (i.e. stripes, colors, prints).
23. When someone thinner than I enters the room I start thinking of how and when I am going to diet.
24. It is a crisis when I gain a pound.
25. I feel guilty if I don't exercise.
